![]() Ann
prefers to paint
'plein air'. In her paintings, Ann
seeks to capture dreams juxtaposed to reality. "A momentous sky
can appear in a moment and be gone...only captured in the memory, but
that image may be thought about again and again while carrying on the
most mundane activities of daily life. In my painting, I seek to
capture those moments."
Ann holds a BFA from the University of Denver and has studied art at the University of Copenhagen and the Rhode Island School of Design. She helped found a group of painters in Rhode Island named The Ceruleans. Together and individually they show their work in galleries and libraries throughout New England. Spending time in
"Downeast" Maine and more time in Hawaii, she
has
found many inspirations for new work. Landscapes, seascapes,
skyscapes and portraiture hold her interest. In addition, she
doesn't shy away
from
using her work to bring a political message.
Ann co-curated a major exhibition called The Equinox Petroglyph Project: Interpretations by Women and Children Art Exhibition. Works by 22 women native and non-native artists and over 30 Passamaquoddy children were selected to travel around New England and nationally to celebrate the petroglyphs of Machias Bay, Maine. The petroglyphs are up to 5000 years old and part of the rich, but little known native American (Wabanaki) heritage of the northeast. Click on the "Equinox Project" button on the upper right to learn more and see the over one hundred works that were created for this project including a 52 page color catalogue. Oil is her favorite medium, but she also uses acrylic and mixed media, such as oil mixed with textiles and pastels. Her latest work can be found in the "Hawaii" Series. Ann is featured in the exhibit "Island Light: Through Lens and Brush" in the Gallery on the Pali. Please view her work in the Galleries on the left.
